Zakynthos or Zante as it is also known is one of a cluster of Islands that lies in the southern part of the Ionian sea. It is the 3rd largest of the islands. It is also known as the flower of the east by the Venetians, or even the jewel in the Ionian sea and visitors who see the breathtakingly blue seas and surprising amount of greenery usually agree!

 

The landscape is full of verdant hills and slopes filled with olive groves. In the west the scenery is of imposing rock and to the north east and south west beautiful beaches with the warm Ionian sea lapping at its shoreline.

 

Zakynthos is 40km in length and 20 km wide, the highest point is Vrachianas at 758m.

The airport Dionyses Solomas is just 3.5 km from the capital Zante Town from where you can catch a ferry to Athens or other islands. Shopping is delightful with a excellent selection of local products and of course fresh fish. Sipping coffee in St. Marks square watching the world go by is a must!

With museums, churches, monasteries and even a castle what more could you want!

 

The main resorts are:

 

Tsilivi

Tsilivi is about 7km from the airport this family resort has a blue flag sandy beach and shallow waters leading out to the island of Marathonisi. Although spread out Tisilivi offers all the attractions that you need including many tavarenas, restaurants, shops, bowling alley, nightclub, laundry and many grocery / supermarkets. It is a place where children are made welcome and water sports available.

 

 

Laganas

Laganas about 3 km from the airport, it’s a 24hr resort that families love. Its variety of entertainment will keep the kids happy and young people love its many nightclubs and tavarenas. It has a large blue flag sandy beach - 9km long and enjoys views of Marathonisi and the small island of Aghios sostis. You can enjoy many boat excursions and a variety of watersports.

 

 

Keri

Keri is a quiet and sleepy resort which has an older appeal, a good selection of tavernas and shops a beautiful blue flag sandy beach with shallow waters it is 15 Km from Zante towm and 12 Km from the airport Keri boast a lighthouse with spectacular sunsets an excellent diving centre, a church steeped in history and also Keris famous blue caves>

 

 

Alykanas / Alykes

Alykanas & Alykes - both resorts are within walking distance of each other and are on the northside of the island. Blue flag beaches surround the resorts, this is a family area with lots of couples honeymooning. There are bars and tavernas a plenty. It is a good base for seeing the rest of the island - 18km from Zante Town and 16km from the airport. A salt pan lies on the outskirts of the resorts and there are rumors that it will turned into an amusement park. Many water sports are also available here.

Don’t forget there are no night flights on Zante due to the curette curette (Turtles breeding)

The first development is only 1.5 km from Tsilivi and Palios in the village of Tragaki.

 

The second development is in Gerkario close to Alykanas and Alykes.
